Current Research:

I’m researching Dmp1 (cyclin D binding myb-like protein 1), a haplo-insufficient tumor suppressor gene, in Dr. Kazushi Inoue's lab. My current interest is how Dmp1 disruption affects the fashion of human cancers, especially human non-small-cell lung cancer.  Dmp1 is a transcription factor that causes p19Arf-, p53-dependent cell cycle arrest in primary cells and Dmp1-/- and Dmp1+/- mice are prone to tumor development, especially lung adenocarcinoma. Previous data showed that the Dmp1 promoter is activated by Ras-Raf-MEK-ERK pathway and activation of the p19Arf by oncogenic Ras is dependent on Dmp1. On the other hand, the Dmp1 promoter is inhibited by E2F signaling and by genotoxic stimuli mediated by NF-kB.  Our laboratory recently showed that the human DMP1 gene is deleted around 40% of human non-small cell lung carcinomas, and the deletion was mutually exclusive from those of INK4a/ARF and/ or the p53 loci.
