The Translational Science Institute is a service oriented institute created in response to the National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) initiative to develop and support well defined translational research within academic institutions. A recent study done by a collaboration of researchers from Wake Forest University (WFU) and Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center (WFUBMC) suggests that a significant number of residents living in retirement communities have deficits in lower body strength, a key indicator in estimating how independent seniors may remain in the future. A follow-up study found a resistance exercise program was effective at improving muscle strength within six weeks.
The third annual Biothreat Agents Workshop will be held on Monday March 15 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with an evening networking reception to follow, and Tuesday March 16 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Harris Corporate Training and Conference Center on the campus of Central Piedmont Community College.
The Wake Forest University Translational Science Institute (TSI) has announced a number of organizational changes. Four programs and four specialized centers have been organized to function collaboratively in support of research conducted at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
Marking a substantial change in the organizational structure of the Wake Forest University Translational Science Institute (TSI), Charles E. “Cash” McCall, M.D., has been appointed director as well as professor of translational science at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine. This is the first primary appointment in the TSI. Stephen B. Kritchevsky, Ph.D., will join McCall as deputy director.
