Journeys: Navigations for Newly Licensed Nurses
The Journeys program is designed to provide support to the new graduate nurse during the first year of employment. The goal of this program is to bridge the gap between education and practice by supporting new nurses as they transition into their new professional role.
The program consists of 2 pathways:
The program includes:
Orientation–General nursing, specialty classes and structured preceptorships
Quarterly Journeys workshops–Didactic sessions, small group discussions, peer networking, simulated practice
Graduate Nurse Advisor(s)
Quarterly 8-hour workshops are specific to the work area—medical/surgical, critical care, or pediatrics/neonatal—and consist of topics such as:
Managing delivery of care
Patient instability
Code blue review
Stress management and self care
End-of-life care
Shared governance
Team building and delegation
Legal and ethical issues
Cultural competence and diversity
Multidisciplinary communication
