Education:
  • Undergraduate: Nova Scotia Agricultural College, 1987-1990
  • Postgraduate: Atlantic Veterinary College, 1990-1994
  • Fellowship: Pathology (Comparative Medicine) Wake Forest University School of Medicine, 2001-2004
Interests:
  • Research: Hormone changes during menopausal transition and chronic diseases common in postmenopausal women.
Current Research:

Dr. Appt's research interests focus on using nonhuman primates to better understand the influence of hormone changes during the menopausal transition and how those changes affect risk factors for chronic diseases common in postmenopausal women.

Current projects include the characterization of the nonhuman primate model of perimenopause, studies of the effects of hormonal changes across the perimenopausal transition on risk factors for cardiovascular disease and bone loss, and the development of imaging modalities to non-invasively track ovarian failure in nonhuman primates.
