The Wake Forest Baptist Telestroke Network, part of our Comprehensive Stroke Center, is focused on reducing death and disability caused by strokes. The Network accomplishes this by partnering with your community hospital to ensure 24-hour access to our acute stroke experts via two-way live video and audio consultation and image sharing technology.

Clinical care activities in the Department of Neurology include a large Inpatient Neurology Service at North Carolina Baptist Hospital.

We have an Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, an Inpatient Neurology Service and superior facilities in our Diagnostic Neurology laboratory, such as EEG, video EEG, sleep studies, electromyography (EMG), and nerve conduction studies. The Medical Center has the state's first magnetoencephalography (MEG) Center.

The announcement by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that it has approved Botox® (onabotulinumtoxinA) to treat upper limb spasticity (excessive muscle tightness) following a stroke is great news for the millions of stroke survivors in the United States, said Allison Brashear, M.D., professor and chair of the Department of Neurology at WFUBMC.

The Neuroultrasound Lab at WFUBMC has been reaccredited by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL) for its commitment to providing a high level of patient care and quality testing in the diagnosis of vascular disease.

The Comprehensive Stroke Center at WFUBMC expanded its Telestroke Network in January with the addition of Ashe Memorial Hospital. The partnership will help patients in and around Ashe County receive state-of-the-art stroke therapies.
