The treatment team reviews many factors to determine whether Gamma Knife® SRS is the best approach for an individual’s condition. In many cases, the Gamma Knife team can evaluate the patient’s medical history, existing films and laboratory tests before seeing the patient in order to determine whether a physical consultation at the Medical Center is necessary.

Consultations are scheduled promptly, and the procedure is usually performed the following day.

Gamma Knife SRS is typically used to treat the following conditions:

  • Benign and cancerous primary brain tumors
  • Brain metastases (spread of cancer to the brain), including recurrent, previously irradiated
  • Meningiomas
  • Acoustic neuromas
  • Arteriovenous malformations
  • Trigeminal neuralgia
  • Brain lesions less than 4 cm in diameter, where open surgical options have been exhausted or are inappropriate due to patient age, complex medical illness, location or number of lesions
  • Tremor that has not responded to medical treatment
