Not only do we care about the safety of employees, faculty and staff while at work, the use of portable space heaters at home can be dangerous and/or deadly if not used properly. Keep the following in mind:
Keep portable heaters 3 feet away from combustibles (i.e. furniture, curtains, blankets).
Never place portable heaters near flammables.
Plug portable electric heaters directly into a wall outlet. Do not use extension cords or surge suppressors.
Never leave heaters unattended.
Always refer to the manufacturer's recommendations.
